I applied once before when I was graduating from undergrad, but for a variety of reasons, I decided to stick around and get my Master's degree. This is the timeline for my application this time.
September 22, 2010 - Talked with Amy, my recruiter, at the UF Study Abroad Fair about reapplying
October 19, 2010 - Met with Amy to discuss applying
February 14, 2011 - Began application online
February 17, 2011 - Application submitted
February 25, 2011 - Addendum and transcripts sent to Amy
April 18, 2011 - Run over by a pickup truck and broke my leg
May 5, 2011 - Interview with Amy for newly released Jan-Mar 2012 programs
June 3, 2011 - NOMINATION for Youth/Community Developement in Central/South America leaving late April 2012
August 31, 2011 - Medical/Dental packed mailed in
October 31, 2011 - Broken leg reached "Maximum Medical Improvement" and doctor's notes email in
December 7, 2011 - "A decision has been reached regarding your medical review. Please look for a letter in the mail." Medical Clearance showed up in the mail about a week later.
December 30, 2011 - Email asking for updated resume and transcript
January 24, 2012 - Freaking out due to no word and recent closure of three countries in my region, so I emailed the Placement and Assessment Assistant
January 25, 2012 - Placement Assistant responds that file is under consideration and my inquiry was noted
February 15, 2012 9:40a - Call and leave voicemail with Placement Assistant
February 15, 2012 3:30p - Placement Officer from Secondary Education in Africa calls me to gauge my interest in changing my placement and leaving in June or July to teach science; asked lots of questions and left it with a phone interview the following Wednesday and she would inquire into the status of my application on my original placement
February 15, 2012 4:45p - Email from PO stating that my earliest leave date for my original placement would be June, probably later; officially switched placement desks
February 21, 2012 - Met Peace Corps Director Aaron Williams at a private reception following a talk he did here at UF; he asked my major and when I said I had a BS in Zoology and MS in Physiology, his response was "Well I'd say you're in."
February 22, 2012 - Placement Officer called at exact time scheduled; talked for 30 minutes about coping with service, family response, etc.; told I would be leave doing Secondary Education in Science leaving med to late june in Sub-Sahara Africa and that the invitation would be in the mail early next week; freaked out!
February 29, 2012 5:00a - Email saying my application status has been updated. Logged into PC, found this page, and immediately emailed my recruiter to thank her a million times over.
March 2, 2012 - Invitation comes via UPS! Going to Malawi Teaching Secondary Education Physical Science!!!!! Staging is June 18-19 and Pre-service begins June 20, 2012!!!
